(Objetos Encontrados)

This is the story of a friend of mine, who was just in the limbo of decisions. Lets call her Angie and her story begins back when she was in high school. 

Angie, who lived in Colombia, was a very smart girl, but the thing was that she was rather lazy. Instead of studying, Angie preferred to watch TV and chug on candy and snacks. She used to play the guitar and in fact, she was pretty good at it. I remember she once told me she had won a various amount of prices and diplomas over her talent.

However, as I told you, she was not outstanding in her general high school courses such as math, language, or physics.  As a matter of fact, I used to think she was a very active person but as soon as we stand inside the classroom it was like if all her energy was drained, so you had to carry with yourself a power bank or extra batteries to re charge her.

Just as every human, Angie had a true passion, technology and design, Her dream was to pursue a degree which fused both, and she found just the right one. In a university far far away, in the north of Mexico, was the Tec of Monterrey with an available bachelor degree of Digital Systems and Robotics Engineering.

Angie realized she HAD to go there, so she set

things that distracted her from a productive life aside, abandoned the over consumption of candy, ad started to show interest in those classes who were difficult for her.

Angie had reorganized her life, in a matter of months, she found herself in Monterrey, in a whole new country, she new that not even the sky was the limit. But this did not went well for long. She had no one to stop her form doing what she loved and trying new things. She started spending in apparel and stuff she really did not needed, and her money was running low.

When she was starting her second semester, she had to set her priorities up and place new years' resolutions. Convincing herself to accomplish them, she started a successful second semester.

Semesters went by, of course she had ups and downs, but every week was as magical as her first ever. Angie was getting near to choose what to do in her future within her career. She already knew since she was able to watch TV, she wanted to work with cartoons. Ever since she had the chance to watch TV, she would go straightly to The Looney Tunes, she loved them, and was always intrigued how these were made. 

Unfortunately, these sort of preparation was just available in Europe, Spain. Now we had a new problem there. What was great about Angie was that she never saw a problem, but a challenge. She tricked to lock herself up from stuff that kept her from achieving this new goal.

Did she made it? Did she not? Well, lets say that last time I talked to her she was dining on some hot paella with a bunch friends while finishing a project for Wild Tangent Games. She has been an inspiration for many around the world.

It wasn't such an Utter Knockdown (I hope so)

Oh my God, its already 6:10 and I'm not even done with the physics lab, will I make it on time? I rush from the lab to my classroom, and on the first floor I get a massive cramp on my leg, leave me behind, get to your class, save yourselves. As soon as I am back on my feet I scamper to my class. I made it on time. Phew! Students start assembling their projects, thankfully mine didn't need much assembly.



The teachers start asking for presenters to come up on "stage" and present their project and on which art philosopher they based it and how it wraps up their first blog entry. I had just one thought in my mind. What the hell? Was there supposed to be a presentation? Where was I when they said that? I am soooo doomed. I started browsing information that could help me present, I already how I knew why my project is art to me. But words couldn't come out.


My whole speech came out as a show and tell, come on. I could've definitively done way better. It was all like an expository talk on what my project was rather then what it represented, but I have schemed what it represents. I can't believe myself. I just felt Zoidberg shouting from the crowd. And I deserved it. Know it was all up to explain myself on the essay, I really hope I did well enough.

It was all about inspiration, that what I did there could become a: "if we can do that with plastic, imagine if we enhance it and embrace the idea?" The applications and ideas would be limitless. Art inspires, gives that feeling of "I can do that" or "I can try that" and thats how knew things appear in life. Its just about inspiring and concentrating on what you want to transmit. With one person who is willing to make a change, that individual makes the whole world change. Surpassing criticism and negative ideologies, we can always shoot for the sky.
      

Evening Blunder

During every project there are ups and downs. And Wednesday 31st wasn't the exception. Summing up my week's happenings, this day was a rather tired and very stressful day. As soon as I got into the classroom I felt an entire feeling of relaxation. I started with my project right after eating some chips a friend drought along. The project was being handled okay, but my body was drained out.

As I waited for things to stick together while on a hammock, I fell asleep. Best freaking 15 minutes of my life. Immediately after I woke up my project was still alive and it was time for a test.  So I had to go to a really dark place for it to work, so I went upstairs to my office where all the lights were out. The thing worked fine, but it could be improved, I took notes on everything I could've changed. From resources to elaboration process all the way up to geometry applications.

Luckily, the instructors gave us an extra week to polish our projects, now it was time to set those improvements in actions. Throughout the day I also learned new things, like the well-known  exquisite corpse technique, which we kept on doing with my friend throughout the period.

As soon as the class was dismissed, it was the start of a new week, dedicated to advances and the amelioration of the project. Hoping for a less tired week, we had ended another day in Art and Technology, one of the most innovative courses I've ever taken.

One Step Closer to Glass Technology

As crazy as glass technology might sound, we are not far away from achieving it. Sketches and rough drafts explaining how this could work have been already published. These type of technology and projections can be seen in Star Wars, it can be in a galaxy far far away, but its closer than what we expect.




Several students have proposed ways for projecting stuff in holographic-like properties. Projects using water vapor and glycerin-based vapor as a "wall" for the projection are the most common in this rather unusual topic.

Some of these prototypes include the usage of a projector and piping work. Others involve serious computer programming and awesome gadgets.

A new way to reach this technological challenge is the usage of an advanced gaming device known as kinect. Xbox has not only revolutionized in the gaming industry, but also in the ICT's world. The combination of gaming and programming has become a convenient hobby, not only to hack a game and get cheat codes.

Ubi interactive is a hardware and software company that provides solutions and technological services similar to the smart boards used in schools. This program can be linked to the kinect and manage to create an interactive work space. By the motion tracking and depth perception cameras in the kinect, Uni is able to detect where a user is pointing, swiping or tapping on a surface and interpret these gestures as if they were performed in a giant ipad.

Of course this doesn't represents what glass technology is in its complete form or essence, but it is a huge step forward on the target. Surprisingly, building these project ain't that hard as to build a glass house, but neither as easy as building a playdoh boat. It will be a challenge, but with the correct attitude and applied knowledge a model of these idea can be accomplished.
 

Glass Technology - How will it affect our lives?

   

  
Wall-E's axiom and all of its great technology advances such as plasma paths, hologram advertising, and those cool all-inclusive chairs are just a blink of an eye away.
What I am talking about is truly amazing. Not only smart TV's but limitless items and households such as windows, mirrors, every car panels.

Sounds crazy doesn't it? Every single human can help us to get closer to this reality, from meds to designers to engineers.

Similar technology does have had its first appearances, though such impact has not been as expected, of course, this as of small scale products such as watches, ipads, or smart boards used in schools. These previous mentioned are just the beginning of new advances. as soon as it is developed faster and stronger, applications will be limitless. From kitchen appliances, work purposes, transportation, human welfare as a whole, up to social interaction and problem solving skills. From a girl getting ready to school to her mother in her working station, this technology would be available.

Another topic highly involved on
this project which we shouldn't  get into to to avoid an endless discussion on pros and cons is communication. Oh shoot! I forgot to call my mother, lets just call her form the fridge. Now this sentence will make so much more sense in a couple of years.


Which is the greatest, not mentioned before, feature? It may not run either on wifi or lifi, maybe solar? Maybe some new air- running form of wave? Who knows, what we have for sure is that this project is seeking for energy efficiency and a fuel consumption decrease. Maybe we are talking about a new cordless era. No more carrying chargers.




But what about its impact on humans? Will it be triggering a sedentary lifestyle or making kids dumber?
Lets not all forget the human atmosphere on Wall-E. The smarter things got, the dumber and useless we became. I personally believe its all about correctly selling not only convenience but a new, more productive lifestyle. Specially show them there are no boundaries in the world. The only limit is our own imagination.





So, after all these possibilities, what are you willing to do to make the world go further and achieve your goals? Do not trust, believe, live it, and if you couldn't live it, make a way for others to live it. Share your knowledge, there is a purpose for everyone in this world, and it is achievement. So achieve everything together, After all, we all live here, lets make it a better world.
